Most people assume that exhaust systems are only good for noise suppression, but that’s not true. Noise suppression is their most obvious benefit, but they’re also designed to protect the environment and keep emissions away from your passenger compartment. Seeing as though your exhaust is very complex, it makes sense that maintenance is of the utmost importance. Not only do you have emissions control systems that need to be maintained, but the structure of the tubing itself also needs to be maintained. Here at Whitecloud Mechanical, we’re exhaust system experts. Whether it be basic maintenance or large-scale repairs, Whitecloud has you covered.
Tell-Tale Symptoms of a Bad Exhaust
A loud exhaust is typically a symptom of an exhaust leak. Leaks can be very dangerous because the emissions going through your exhaust may end up seeping into your passenger compartment. Your exhaust tubing is designed in such a way that fumes are pushed away from the vehicle. Holes and leaks divert this flow, potentially putting you in harm's way. We highly recommend you get a loud exhaust inspected so you aren’t at risk of inhaling deadly fumes from your exhaust. Do keep in mind that if the exhaust leak is before your catalytic converter, you’re effectively bypassing an emissions control system, which is very illegal.
Vibration and Rattling
If your exhaust is vibrating or rattling, chances are one or more of your heat shields is damaged. Heat shields are designed to protect your vehicle from the heat within your exhaust. If one of these heat shields falls off, you’re putting important components at risk. Heat shields can be found near your catalytic converter, your gas tank, and your exhaust manifold. On certain vehicles, they may also be near your drivetrain components. Here at Whitecloud Mechanical, we’re exhaust experts. We are more than capable of dealing with heatshield issues of all kinds.
